Progress magazine is pleased to release the 2013 list of Atlantic Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies. Now in its 14th year, Progress’s Fastest Growing Companies List is a highly anticipated ranking of companies in Atlantic Canada that have seen the most significant increase in revenues over the past three years.  These are the companies that are setting the pace for the new economy, not just for Atlantic Canada but also nationally.

Topping this year’s list is Charlottetown-based Island Abbey Food Science Ltd, which operates under the Honibe (pronounced “honey bee”) brand, a line of candies, sweeteners, and lozenges made from dehydrated honey. The company recently launched a new line of products and expanded its distribution into European markets. As a result, over the last three years Island Abbey Food has increased sales by a whooping 700%. “Island Abbey Food is a superstar among a growing cluster of bioscience companies in Prince Edward Island,” says Neville Gilfoy, the publisher of Progress magazine. “The Industry generates more than $100 million in revenue each year with more than 1,100 employees in the field. Much of P.E.I.’s growth in bioscience has is due to the success of entrepreneurs such as John Rowe.”

Other Fastest Growing Companies include: Halifax-based Nova Georgia Properties Ltd. (526% growth); Dartmouth-based Mercer’s Best Built Structures Inc. (317% growth); Shediac, N.B.,-based Partner Seafood Inc. (194% growth); Fall River, N.S.,-based Rooftight Construction (184% growth); Fredericton-based LuminUltra Technologies Ltd. (163% growth); Halifax-based STI Technologies Ltd. (113% growth); Dartmouth based Ad-dispatch (72% growth) and Charlottetown-based BioVectra Inc. (67% growth).

Presented by Progress Media Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Rogers, the Fastest Growing Companies Reception took place on October 24th in Dieppe, N.B. The reception recognized the achievement and the valuable contributions the Fastest Growing Companies make to create sustainable economic prosperity in the Atlantic region.
